Washington Twp.- Zoning Board Votes in Favor of Sky Trading Application
After two long years of Zoning Board meetings, the moment everyone had been waiting for finally happened tonight when Board members voted on Sky Trading's application to "modify" its 5 Star Gas Station and replace the repair business with a convenience store.
Long story short, on the D-1 variance, which pertains to the convenience store (constitutes a new use), the Board voted 5-2 in favor of the store, stating the store would be an improvement over the auto repair read more

Hillsdale- Borough Can't Get Records Straight: Op-Ed by Kevin O'Brien
The filth at the home of a Borough of Hillsdale employee, is getting attention. The car engine hood pictured in March, was just moved next to the old car bumper discarded in the front yard. The dirty diapers that peppered the front lawn have been picked up.
The big grey shed still stands in the front yard. A pile of skid pallets remain behind the truck that has not moved read more

Washington Township- Notes on 05/07/2012 Council Meeting:
Recreation Mob's Temper Tantrum
Discussion of the budget should have been the primary focus at the 05/07/2012 Council meeting, but the Recreation Mob packed the chamber and had a collective temper tantrum when the governing body did not immediately capitulate to their demand to blanket Memorial Field with artificial turf. A price tag of $1.8 million for artificial turf, inflated with the interest paid on the bond, will put the cost closer to $3 million, when it's all said and done. Such an expenditure should read more

Hillsdale- Compliance with OPRA v. Litigation : the Legacy of Martin O'Shea
The Open Public Records Act (OPRA) would be meaningless had it not been for Martin O’Shea, a newspaper editor and journalist. When municipalities failed to comply with OPRA requests filed by O’Shea and John Paff, his colleague, litigation was filed against municipalities. Martin O’Shea, who died in 2009, left the public a lasting legacy. OPRA empowers the public, including the Fourth Estate, with a basic tenet vital to democracy: information.

Hillsdale- Notes on 05/02/2012 Council Meeting: Budget and More
The 05/02/2012 Council's primary focus at this meeting was the proposed budget. Perhaps it was a mere coincidence, when Councilman Frank used a popular quote, "may you live in interesting times," said to be a Chinese curse for a state of uncertainty, as a lead into the economic challenge facing the Borough. To his credit, Council President Giancarlo admitted the Borough spent $1200.on a clown for 6 hours at Town Day, 'when the pendulum swung the other way"; now read more

Washington Twp.- Op-Ed by Linda Murphy on C-1 Waterway at CVS Site
It is confirmed and the letter is available in the Township offices. What is an aquifer? How does this affect the substantial modification of the sites surrounding it? What is an environmentally critical area?
