Washington Twp.- WT petition regarding GSP exit 171
While the Township petition could have been better written and edited, it does touch upon essential points. Residents from neighboring towns could benefit greatly if right turns are permitted from GSP exit 171 instead of having to exit at 168. The following link is to the electronic petition: http://www.twpofwashington.us/site/questionnaire.asp?q_id=180006388&sec_id=180006394 read more

Washington Twp.- Times are a changing: Independents Win Election by landslide
The Independent candidates won a hard earned victory by a landslide, proving a grass roots movement of concerned citizens and residents, can make a difference. An Independent victory is a first in Township history. Home Rule can and should be a microcosm of democracy at work, instead of the heavy handed autocracy that has governed 30 years too long. Between the success of the petition drive for a binding referendum on Memorial Field and the election victory of the Independent c read more

Washington Twp.- Home Rule v. Turf Rule: voting in new candidates can restore balance to partisan government
The upcoming Township election for members of the Council is a rare occasion for citizens and residents to make a meaningful difference. Home Rule in this town has, thus far, been turf rule by one party. Voters can restore balance by voting in new candidates for the Council.
All have proven they have the mettle it takes to stand up to the local Republicans. Rosa D’Ambra has long been a stalwart citizen at meetings, as well as, Robert Bruno and Michael Ullman. Dr. read more

Washington Twp.- Another perspective on "peculiar & inappropriate": Letter to the Editor from Township resident Toni Plantamura-Rossi
Republican candidate, Jim Hanson, recently wrote a letter to the editor regarding how artificial turf committee members have launched an effort to disrupt the Mayor and Council’s efforts to budget in the artificial turf park at a cost of $2.45 million by having Township residents sign a petition calling for a referendum. He states that this effort is disruptive to the due process of the Mayor and Council and is "peculiar and inappropriate". I will give you my version of peculiar read more

Washington Twp.- Referendum Vote on Memorial Field in near future: residents successful in petition drive
Kudos to Township residents of the petition committee for the hard work it took to collect signatures from registered voters in favor of a binding referendum on the installation of artificial turf on Memorial Field. It was an arduous journey, but their perseverance has made a significant difference for the public good. A referendum is one of the finest tools in Home Rule, representing the will of the people; it is democracy at work.
Since the governing body turned a deaf ear to th read more

Hillsdale- Residents up in arms: citizens initiate petition drive to stop Demarest Farm from using municipal facilities & local streets for parking
When I stopped at the traffic light by Demarest Farm, on the corner of Van Emburgh Ave. and Hillsdale Ave.last Sunday morning, there was a man, clad in an orange vest, holding a placard that read Demarest Farm Parking with an arrow pointing east. After turning onto Hillsdale Ave,there was a throng of people on the opposite side of the street walking towards Demarest Farm. Glancing over to the school on my left, I saw the parking lot was packed. At the next block on the SW corne read more

Washington Twp.- Petition for Referendum on Turf Field
Despite professing fiscal conservatism, the governing body has voted affirmatively to put residents in hock for $2.4 million to install artificial turf at Memorial Field. The charade staged by the local GOP and manned by its cronies and hacks created a need for artificial turf in the name of the Township's youth and property value. About a decade ago, the local GOP attempted to push artificial turf as the solution to the conditions at Memorial Field, which are a consequence of poor read more
